some questions on wiring hydros

Ok, i have 4 batteries in two 24V banks. The kit i got has 3 solenoids in series to each pump, so there are 6 solenoids. do I need all of them for this application? do the solenoids need to be grounded? Also, do the dumps need 12V or 24V to trigger
