Is it possible to shorten the stock exhaust, or will it run like crap?? I need to take about 1.5" off to get the cat above the framerails, and almost a foot out of the overall length to get this hooker to fit. Any ideas??
i cut mine right at the back of the cab and added a muffler. no problems here. sounded pretty good too.
as for the shortening the 4-1 collector area....I am going to be tackling that here this week. so far we know we may can use flex pipe and hard mount the rest of the exhaust. thats about our best guess so far....will let you know and take pics of what we do.

Check out LC's cat, very small & stainless steel. Cost less than stock & is flow through!
i'm not worried about a catalytic. we have 0 emissions.
When we installed the motor & tranny in my truck I had the exhaust shorten & tucked up above the frame rails. I also cut the cat off & installed a 40 series Flowmaster muffler & it sounds awesome!! Right now the exhaust dumps out under the bed, but Im about to run a BroSpeed tip out in front of the drivers side tire to give it a better tone.
I'D LIKE TO COME HERE YOURS WHEN YOU DO THAT..I WAS THINKING ABOUT GETTING RID OF MY 40 SERIES TO QUIET IT DOWN
well mine used to end right after the cab no muffler.
that was pretty loud.
then i went open headers (front pipe broke..)
^^ that sounded so bad.
Then i went to cat only (cept gutted in the middle... kinda) and it was under the driver's seat. that sounded pretty good.
now i have this short pipe behind my cat, angled 45 degrees to the left.. barely. But i think the pipe makes it sound like sh!t. So i will go back to running cat only.. it will be louder, but won't sound so much like a ricer
My question is the legality of it. Will it pass smog shortened?
I'm sure if you kept the OEM manifold, OEM front pipe (cept shortened a tiny bit.... like 6 inches?) while retaining the OEM cat, you should be able to pass smog. I think this should be true because without messing with the Manifold exhaust lengths (like slapping a header on), the truck should be able to keep it's exhaust fumes within regulation. Plus the OEM cat will do its job.
