Couple of questions here...does anyone have any tips or pics of stock tanks mounted to a custom backhalf?? I'm having a bitch of a time trying to figure out a safe way, so I've considered a fuel cell. However, living in Cali I gotta be able to pass smog, so I was wondering if there are cells to buy that could take my stock sender, filler neck, etc...or can I get smog legal stuff (sender, etc.) for a cell?
I know tanks are made out of aluminum, stainless, or plastic, but can they be made from normal steel?? Or would that rust everything??
You can build a mild steel fuel cell and coat the inside. It's a better idea to use stainless or aluminum, even if it is expensive for the material.
Thanks, that's what I figured...just makin' sure.
From what I know.. You can probably pull off making your own size of tank from a very reliable material (like Seth said, aluminum or stainless) and put the essentials back onto the new tank... such as the neck, pump and whatnot. I'm sure the tank won't affect smog.
when i wanted to put a fuel cell in mine i was worried too about the whole smog issue. figured who knows maybe one might move back to cali.. and even in nevada i dont know how they go about having a fuel cell. so i figured id be safe. i modified a fuel cell to accept the stock pump and sending unit and then welded a filler neck to accept the stock rubber/stock gas cap and ran it up into the bed behind an access door.
YOU CAN BUILD ONE OUT OF MILD STEEL OR MODIFY ONE OF THE SUMMIT TANKS TO FIT YOUR STOCK GOODIES. THERE IS ALSO A PLACE UP HERE OFF OF THE 91 AND LINCOLN CALLED AERO FUEL TANKS THAT CAN BUILD ONE,TO ACCEPT ALL THE STOCK STUFF BUT THERE PROBALLY SPENDY. I WOULD EITHER MAKE YOUR STOCK TANK FIT OR MAKE ONE AND COAT THE INSIDE. IF YOU WANT SOME HELP MAKING ONE UP LEMME KNOW MABEY WE CAN WORK SOMETHING OUT...
What was also on my mind was... make sure if you get a larger tank, have the sender unit read correctly XD
