I just pulled the head on my 91 pickup extra cab short bed, i picked it up for 500 bucks...with thoughts of just a vavle job and timing chain...but now i have it apart im wondering if i should rebuild the whole motor?? The truck will be my daily driver when its done so i can start to bag my single cab 94 toyota pickup, Have a look see at these pics and drop an opinion...

If it were me & I was going to be driving it everyday then I would go ahead & rebuild the whole engine while its torn down.

Doesn't really look that bad. If everyone could look into their motor they would be shocked, but they run fine. I would rebuild it since it's allready torn halfway down though. Not because it looks rough inside.

hey man if you are gonna rebuild.take your block to ur local machine shop have them put it in the tank.get it good and clean have them look at you crank and rods they will tell you if they need replaced.it dosent look to bad realy? trust me i have seen alot worse.

but on the same hand you have it out and torn down you misewell put some new rings and bearings in it atleast.have the head checked out and shaved if nessecery.mabey new valve seals.

i dono just my 2 cents.if i pull a motor and it looks like that its getting rebuilt before it go's back in.

Well i mean how much money you wanna put into this i would think probably 1000 total if it were me. so you got 500 to rebuild a motor i would go ahead and order a master rebuild kit, i've seen them online for about 350 so that leaves you 150 to get things cleaned up and the valves re sealed,......... but ive been in your situation before also if that were my truck i would do the basics to get it running again and then drive it til the doors fall off and invest my money in the 94

yea that sounds about right...ill most likely pass 1000 cuz i bought the timing kit already 160 and it needed a bed so i bought one for 250...but im going to go ahead and rebuild it, why not...would hate to have to rip it apart soon if i dont do it now...thanks for the input! if everything checks out ill go with new pistons and rings and bearings....maybe .030 over?
