Engine Driven Compressor

Help me please!!! I am trying to run an engine driven compressor on my Avalanche and I'm having nothing but problems getting this thing to work. When we hooked it up we thought we had it working just fine then all over a sudden, the belt ripped the pulley off the alternator! Its a big mess, so if anyone has any knowledge on how to hook this thing up and tell me what we did wrong. Please help me!
