jus wondering wat the people with fuel cells did as far as their fuel gauge goes,i wanna get a fuel cell but i also use my factory fuel gauge, also if anyone has a fuel cell they are selling cheap let me kno
i modified a fuel cell that i got and have made it to accept all my stock parts. just have to finish it.
Most fuel cells (if equiped) with a sender are designed to use with a GM guage or most aftermarket guages. If you want to use your stock guage, you will have to modify the stock sender to use in the cell. I chose to use an autometer guage because the stock guage would never read right with the factory sender bent up to fit the depth of the cell and still have full travel from full to empty. It can be done, it's just tricky.
Got a Donner tank & used the flanges into a custom made stainless tank!Use a AtuoMeter gauge, & Venom fuel pump!
Get a cell deep enough to use the stock sending unit, and make an adapter, or weld the correct bung on before its had fuel in the tank.
not to jock the thread but ive seen a few people make their cells out of steel instead of aluminum... what do you have to do, or do you have to do anything to coat the insides? the stock tank is steel so why not the cell... besides it being a little bit lighter.
cause it wont be pretty. thats really the only good reason i can think of aside from weight, which is not a concern for your application.
Eastwood makes a coating for new steel tanks. I like a plastic cell with foam. Inexpensive, light, durable, don't have to polish, and in case of severe accident, fuel is not spilled out creating a hazard.
cause it wont be pretty? i would think if i made a steel one to have it powdercoated or just paint it. but ohwell
