ive been looking for a new truck to be my daily drive. driving a bagged truck 365 days a year starts to suck ass after 5 years. i saw a 1991 4runner for sale that i could probably pick up for about 2 g's. its a V6 with 191k on it. i asked him if the head gasket had given out and he was kinda surprised that i asked him that one specific question..haha.. anyways, he said he changed it about a year ago. everything works (a/c, power everything, 4 wheel drive, etc.) ive never been a big fan of the v6 because of its head problems but i was just curious as to if you guys think its a good reliable deal. (motor wise)
other than that problem, and their general lack of power, they're pretty reliable from my experiences.
cool, im not really looking into anything that has a lot of power. i just want something reliable and gets decent gas mileage. i dont tow around cars or haul anything really huge. ill pull a small trailer with motor cycles on it..thats about it. something a truck with a 4 cly. could do easily. what kind of gas mileage to these things average? is 191k on a v6 a lot or is its life almost overwith?
I have a 88 pickup i am looking to possibly trade. The thing is in great condition the engine only has about 80 thousand miles on it.
Oh crap just noticed you are as far as you can possibly get from me, wouldnt be worth it. I wont try to snake your thread anymore.
HAHA...its all good. i just want something thats stock, has ac, and can pull a small trailer.
sounds like a ok deal. my 90 with a v-6 5sp
with a dropped valve still got around 15mpg.
don't know about your 90 5speed but from what i've seen 5 speeds are few and far between. my mom has a 91 automatic and i drive it from time to time, only gets about 15mpg and nothing wrong with it.
as for power, i think a VW beetle towing a wagon load of concrete uphill would be faster..
it comes in handy from time to time, but i definately wouldn't recomend it for a daily unless you like shelling out $$ for gas.
well I just picked up a '89 4runner auto with a bad cylinder and that turd gets maybe 10mpg and no power..lol
I had an 89 4Runner with the V6 and 5 speed and it was pretty good over all. The engine is not outstanding but it's smoother and quieter than the 22R. Mine had about 450,000kms on when I sold it, it didn't burn any oil and the only things that had ever been replaced on the vehicle were 3 alternators, 3 clutches and a fuel pump, and of course the oil regularly. Even the spark plug leads were the original it's whole life. I also found that I got much better milage particularly on the highway if I kept it under 3200 rpm, after 3500 om the highway that thing would just suck back the fuel. Also I found that the fuel economy varied greatly depending on what petrol station I would fill up at. I only sold the 4Runner to buy a super mint 1984 Supra.
My brother also has a 1990 V6 5 Speed 'Runner which has also proven to be quite reliable and also gets decent fuel economy if the rpms are kept at 3200rpm or less.
