a/c for compressor Question?

Alright does it work on a nissan truck cause i tryed to hook it up on a buddys of mine truck and i couldn't get it to work.This is how i did it i took the hoses of the compressor and then cut the a/c on from the inside of truck and it didn't blow no air . Did i do something wrong do i have to have a switch hooked up to it frist of something ?
