since ive had my truck when accelerating in speedometer bounces up and down a little bit. once i get to a sustained speed it keeps doing it just not as bad...its been doing it for some time but a little while ago, it started to make a rubbing noise in my cluster, that weekend i pulled it out and used some graphite lube that didnt quiet it down, so i used graphite and wd-40..that worked. yesterday, i took my gauge cluster out to install some white face gauges and a billet alluminum bezzle, i looked at the speedo and it all seemed fine. once i put it all back together i was on my way home from school and i noticed that the speedo bounces worse when accelerating, sustaining, and when i go to slow down the speedo will sometimes fluctuate back and fourth 10 mph.. to top it all off now its starting to make noise again. could this be because of a messed up gauge cluster or a bad cable? or anything else im not sure..im starting to get frustraited with it, any help would be appreciated. sorry for the long post.
p.s. the truck is an 88 toyota pickup...2wd. w/ 22r motor if it matter. thanks in advance

cool, thanks guys...ill have to look into getting another cable. im just glad its not the cluster...im kinda proud of my 306, 600 miles i got on the truck. lol. i just thought it might have been the cluster because of the rubbing or grinding noise it makes when driving it....so by replacing the cable it should stop making noise then too right? hope so. thanks again.

yes, its the cable! my 4runner ground and bounced at 250,000 miles till i replaced the speedo cable, i think it was around 50.00 at the dealer.

COOL, THATS GOOD TO HEAR. I THINK I SAW ONE AT ADVANCED AUTO PARTS FOR 20 OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, ALTHOUGH THE DEALER IS PROBABLY THE BEST WAY TO GO.

mine does it a little bit, i wont be taking mine out anytime soon, unless im ready to do my engine swap and/or dash swap.
306k miles huh. does yours smoke when you first crank it up??

yeah it doesnt smoke bad when i first start it but when im driving and i lay into it it will start smoking bad...lol. its on its second motor...the original one blew up when my dad had the carpet re-done in it the dude cut an oil line for a gauge my dad had put in...it pumped all the oil out and blew...so the motor that is in it now was a cheepy and has burned oil from day one...now the timing chain is ticking but instead of fixing it, im just gonna put another "good" not a cheepy motor back in it.
