Bag Cup question

This is probably a really stupid question, and I didn't want to hijack the other guys bag cup question so I started a new thread, It seems like everyone I know has had to trim their bag cups, whats the reason that you have to use a cup style bag mount up front, and not the flat style bag brackets that is used in the rear?
