SCREW'N A SPEAKERBOX

im getting ready to build a speaker box for my brothers car & im using 3/4" MDF & was wondering what screws to use??? sheetmetal screws i think but how long should i get them?? i've had probs in the past with the wood splitting. thanks for your help
