tranny swap

hey i just got a 2wd 1983 desil mighty max, 14000 mile. the main problem im having is the tranny needs an exstra gear to keep up on the freeway. note i would still like to have low gears for towing i just need to beable to stay at a desent speed withought burning off all my gass. know anything that will work?

I did a little digging online and found that this engine also was available in ford rangers. Might be some options there depending on if the bell housing matches up.

Not sure if that's any help to you, but based on what you said, changing to taller tires or changing the rear gear is not what you're looking for.
