Hello everyone i'm new to this site and have a question, do the 2.4L turbo manifolds for the newer eclipses/galants fit the 6 bolt 8valve engine in my 90 MM. I know about the 2.0 DOHC head swap but i'm short on funds and just want a cheap low boost setup for now. Thanks
No they do not, and "cheap and boost" dont really go togeather as much as youd like them too. But a DOHC head swap is you cheapest route. Depending on your bellhousing size, if you have the smaller one: 12inch: then you may be able to find a used 6 bolt or 7 bolt 4g63T and swap that in. It would be alot cheaper in the long run. Good luck.
The 2.4 trans wont work with the 4g63, only the older 4g63 sohc 2.0 trans works i do believe. I dont agree that a head swap on my 2.4 is anything close to cheap, eclipse head, ecu, wiring harness, galant cam gears timing belt thicker head gasket, thats not all and thats the "cheap" way and not cheap at all. Now if you had a good 2.4 engine and could get a custom manifold anything else would be universal, no it wouldnt be a rev happy dohc but it still would be a turbo and cheaper than a head swap.
Are you serious? A custom manifold would be as much as half the parts for a DOHC swap. If not more. I agree a head swap isnt "cheep" but your talking about boosting a non boosted motor. Not much you do will be cheep. If you can find someone to build you a manifold for that engine, then you allready limited youself to that engine set up. If the motor goes youll have to stick with that head which has 1% aftermarket support if that.
This goes into details of pros and cons of all types of turbo set up ideas for our truck! Do you have a turbo yet? Or know what size you want? Injectors, are you planning on keeping your ecu? You have a piggy back for fuel controll? Bigger pump, build a custom down pipe... just off the top of my head. I am not trying to discourage you by any means, as I am working on this exact project with my max. Just trying to help.
Thanks for your knowledge on the subject at hand. I originally asked about the manifold when after pricing used parts found it to be a few grand and I didn't find too many up and running true 2.4 bottom end with 2.0 dohc head. I actually got some very good info from a guy on Mitsubishi-Forums.com who lives in Japan about the swap originally. Never had any info on the 8v turbo so I asked. Some people can cut and weld a flange to their stock manifold and bolt up a turbo. If I really did a swap I would more consider the 3.0 v6 with the boost ready 8-9-1 bottom end and DOHC possibility. So either a head swap and turbo with stock bottom end and tranny, a tranny and engine swap with the 4G63 DOHC, or V6 that was a OEM option would be good in our little truck. So sleeps is your truck going to be a sleeper?
