hello to all you mitsu truck lovers.

i have a dark blue 87 ram 50....standard cab, short bed, 5spd, 2wd, manual everything (except brakes). it was my grandfather's last little pickup before he passed a couple years ago. he had an 87 red long bed before with power steering but otherwise the same. my grandmother gave it to me and i drove the truck last winter as my daily driver after replacing the water pump and rear brake lines. but the rear frame has suffered rust damage and the engine is really worn out (burns tons of oil and pings) so it needs lots of work before i can put it back on the road. it was perfect for bringing my dad's snowblower down to my house or my aunts house and is indispensible for hauling junk and other stuff you don't mind getting wet. i hauled a snowmobile in the back and also towed 2 on a trailer.

my plans....to have the frame repaired or replaced, graft in the trailing arm rear suspension from an early montero/raider (maybe with rear disc brakes), poly bushings from jcwhitney, 15 inch star rims off a 4x4 or raider (look like the stock 14's), regear the rear to be a bit more highway friendly, etc. i want to get a poly bed liner kit from al's liner and coat much of the body with color matched blue and do the frame and inside the bed with black for contrast. that way i can run it in the salt and not have to worry about salt spray. the carpet will go in favor of a rubber mat and a digital stereo will be nice. i wanted to replace the anemic carb'd 2.0 with the the long stroke 2.4 that has fuel injection. however, mitsubishi has a 260hp 3.8 that is 87 octane friendly and it should be a bolt in considering these trucks were available with the 3.0. money constraints will dictate if i go this route....i'm wanting this to be a low budget build and will do most of the work myself. right now my extra cash is going into a 1972 suburban that will be my real workhorse, but i will need something more daily driver friendly that i can drive in the winter time without worry when my current daily driver finally gives up the fight.

future ideas call for building a matching trailer form a long bed MM/Ram 50....then i could have my short bed sport truck and plenty of cargo space when i need it.
