I just got my 90 b2200 with less than 100k on the clock. truck had just had a new waterpump and timing belt. it has a loud clatter from the top end but it doesnt sound like a rod knock. the only reason i baught the truck is a friend of mine said he had the same thing happen to his and the timing belt was off one tooth so i redid the timing belt and got it set perfect and the the truck runs like a champ but it still has a loud clatter? Any ideas? Was affraid it might be a spun bearing and i cant find a used motor anywhere. any help or ideas would really help this new to mini scene.........
Are you sure that the sound isn't the valve lifters ticking, very common on these trucks. Mine's ticked most of the last 17.5 years since I got it(1988 B2200).
Sounds like a spun crank bearing but it doesnt do it at idle just when i rev. sounds terrable
Screw it. a v8 swap will be cheaper than paying to have my 2.2 rebuilt.
Get a mechanics stethoscope and find out where the noise is at.....it could be something simple and not a spun bearing. Have you drained the oil and looked at it, if you have a spun bearing (and the oil hasn't been changed yet) you should see some super fine aluminum bits in the oil.
The noise is coming from the top end and only when you accelerate. changed the oil today and black as hell but no metal shavings.
Well, it won't be a camshaft bearing, as there are none on these engines.......have you pulled the valve cover and looked at the valvetrain yet?
yeah, looks good and clean. just had someone else say it might be a cracked piston.
The truck looks great man! If I were working on it I would try to pin point the noise source first.......make sure it is not an accessory also.
^this...but i t can get spendy...ill' have probally 4k in mine by the time im done.
