can someone tell me where the switch/sender for the temp gauge is?
i can run all day and the temp gauge stays pegged down.
or might it be the gauge?
There is actually two of them. One is on the lower driver side of the radiator. The other is a green plug on the intake manifold. Ususally the one on the radiator is the problem.
what are they called exactly?
"sending units" ?
or "sensors" ?
just need to know what to ask for @ parts store, never had this problem before.
how much $ are they?
If I remember my wiring, the sensor with the green plug on ur intake manifold goes to ur gauge. Before replacing, unplug and clean the connections with some spray electrical cleaner. U may find that they are dirty rather than non-functional.BJ
on the t stat housing
the on the radiator goes to the carb
to test the one on the tstat housing get a wire put it in the plug then ground it to metal if the guage pegs on hot the guage is good the sending unit is bad
Maximus. . .
It would help a lot if you would indicate whether your vehicle is fuel injected, or carb'ed.
On the carb'ed units, there is a rectangle shaped plug that provides a variable ground signal via the underside of the aluminum timing cover housing.
It is a single wire, located near the water outlet and bypass hoses on the thermostat.
Maybe the wire is disconnected.
Using an ohm-meter, the resistance of the sensor can be checked.
I would be careful about shorting the wire to ground. You can burn up the gauge doing that.
Thanks, man. It's carburated.
Sorry, thought 88's only came carbed?
I do have a hanging wire, disconnected. It's laying on top of the alternator, has a yellow connector.
Not sure where it goes. I was going to start by replacing the sensor that goes into the radiator, it's $8.99
the one on the radiator will not help your guage its for the carb........
so the one with the green clip that goes into the carb/intake?
clean it first?
