Options Please Help

ok some of you may have seen my other thread about the smoking, i believe it is time for some internal engine work. I thought of just doing a complete ring job with new rod and main bearings on my current engine, but a while back i had the head of and noticed that the pistons will wilggle back and forth. Does this mean the cylinders need to be bored? If so Then would i be better off looking for a good used short block to rebuild to cut down on downtime for the dawg its my daily. If this is the case then what do i look for to find a good used short block? I have found rebuild kits on ebay with new pistons, rods, rings, complete gasket set, oil pump, and timming belt and i think these would be the best kits to buy price wise as they are only 300 dollars.
