this may be a dumb question but ive never dealt with/paid attantion to the coils but my coil on my datsun is getting really hot. not just a little bit, my dad grabbed onto it and it burned his hand and left a phillips head indention on his hand from one on the bracket. is that normal? i wouldve never thought they would get that hot but the truck seems to be running fine. i have another coil off of a mazda that i might put on it because coils are universal, right?

Well, my assumption would be that its normal... Think about how much current passes through those puppy's!

youre right about having resistors when there is a point style distributor on older datsuns. i already checked it and its fine. i had just noticed the PO had hooked the coil up backwards. he totally didnt understand about the positive ground in 320 systems. i switched it back and the coil seems to be a bit cooler.
