How can I tell which is the positive and negative on something like the back up light switch? If I plug it in wrong will it just not work, or will it burn something? Under the cab, on the rear harness, are two little connectors for the back up light switch. There is a red wire, and a green wire on one side, and a red/orange stripe wire, and a yellow wire on the other side. The manual only labels the color of one side, so I'm guessing I connect the red to red/orange wire, but what if I'm wrong? I have a multimeter, but Idk what kind of test to do for this. Noob question I know, but I've had enough electrical problems recently. Thanks

The back up light switch on the transmission is NOT grounded to the transmission, it's simply a contact switch actuated by the transmission internals, just a closure switch. So it really doesn't matter which terminals go where of the two.
Pretty much all vehicles have a similar set-up.
