looking at a sportage

looking at getting a sportage for $300. what do I need to know besides needing it to be the fe3? does it it have to be a manual or can it be an auto?

What are you doing with it? Driving the sportage, or throwing the engine in a mazda?
If the latter, its best to get a donor from a vehicle with the same trans as the swap. If your mazda is manual, find a manual engine...Only because you'll then already have the proper flywheel for your mazda's trans. Other than that, its not a huge deal. My first FE3 swap I did I used an auto trans FE3 and put it into a manual swapped Mazda. Just removed the wires between the engine ECU and trans controller and grounded the neutral safety switch.

sorry for the late response. I posted then took some zzzz's. I am looking to swap to motor into my B. A guy on the local craigslist has one for sale but it sounds like he doesn't know anything about cars. He didn't even know if it had a manual or auto, yet he said he drove it for years.

If he doesnt even know which trans its got look it over good because he prolly doesnt know to change the oil either. If its an auto all you gotta source is a MT Kia flywheel. What year is the Kia? The 95 and 96 Usually have a FI FE motor.
