Hey guys. I have a 91 2600i 4x4. The truck has been fantastic for me. Its my second Bseries. However, lately I have been having issues with it. It starts just fine but 10 seconds after started it bogs down and almost quits, but ultimately stays running. I can drive it but it bogs down and will even spit and pop when given gas. At its worst it feels like it is running on 2 cylinders and really struggles to get above 40 MPH.
Looking around the other day I did notice that gas was seeping from the rubber nipple on the pressure damper. I have one on order from RockAuto.
In your educated Mazda opinions, do you think I'm on the right track?
Alright. I replaced the fuel damper. It did correct the surging and almost stalling upon idle, however all other problems still exist. When I am driving it I have to fight it to get to 40mph. It will bog down and feel like it is only running on two cylinders.
Next suggestion?
Check/replace plugs, clean maf sensor..? When I got mine it ran like crap till I did that...
Did you read the thread need some help by mzd4x4? His turned out to be a distributor position off by one gear tooth. If you did some work on the distributor it's worth checking. Also a clogged catalytic converter causes bogging down when accelerating. As mentioned by 91extcab check the spark plugs, MAF sensor, and also check for good spark on all 4 spark plug positions.
Do as suggested already, on the MAF you can unplug it while running and if it smooths out then you have a bad maf. Put your hand over the muffler and check for a consistent flow and pressure. Also check the PCM for any signs of a bad capacitor.
I appreciate all of the suggestions.
I pulled the ecu last night and (being in MN) I could see straight through the floor to the fender well/tire and it was wet near the ecu. Looking inside the ecu I could see quite a bit of corrosion, so I'm hoping it is that. However, it was so corroded that when I unplugged the ecu, one of the terminals from the ecu broke off inside the plug. I'm now spraying the plug with WD40 and hoping I can get it the terminal out.
If I can't get it out, is there anyone that has an extra plug from a parts truck?
