It could even be a cracked head. or a cracked cylinder wall. Pull the spark plugs and see if any of them are wet w/coolant. Then crank it over with the plugs remove, and see if coolant comes spraying out of any cylinders.

Oh, and you might even want to perform a leak down test, You will need compressed air and a leak down tester for this, there is a youtube video about leakdown testing, and IDK you might can rent one at the local auto parts store. Good luck!

Yes because coolant runs through the manifold into the head

So the intake was loose, with the gasket getting wet do I have to replace it or can I get away with just tighting it up?

Probably not oil smoke he has, he said it smokes only when coolant is added so good chance it's a coolant thing, a couple points:

- Do a pressure test of the cooling system, that will help you pinpoint the leak

- Remember that coolant is corrosive to engine bearings and if you got coolant in your cylinders,it will leak past the rings into the pan - I have seen many blown head gaskets cause bearing failures. Flush your oil before you run the truck, once you fix the leak.

Did you use the old head bolts or replace them. They can become distorted when you pull them out. also did you follow the right torque pattern when tightening the head back down.
