head gasket problem

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a 89 b2200 std cab, I purchased knowing it needed a headgasket. I pulled the head and replaced the gasket the headgasket, the machinist said the head was good so I had it resurfaced. I got everything put back together and discovered the ignition switch is bad, I hooked everything to toggle switches and a push button, got the truck running and it was smoking a little, I figured it was burning everything out of the exhaust, after a little while it stoped, then it started smoking everytime id start it after sitting but would stop, I ran it through about 4 or 5 heat cycles and retorqued the head bolts to 63ftlbs and now it won't stop smoking. Did I do something wrong or is my head bad?

Did the truck run at all before you did the head gasket? Sounds like the rings are shot

The head is probably fine... you need rings.
Very common on high mileage Mazda engines.

edit: Doh... mazdizzle beat me to it.

Its the wrong color smoke, and it dosent use oil. Its deffanantly coolant. I drove for a little while again and it eventually stoped. But I think the radiator is empty but it don't over heat. The guy I bought it from said it was running fine untill the radiator busted and it overheated.

So, is the radiator still busted?? I see no mention of you replacing it. DO not overheat it again, or you will ruin your new HG work. Park it till you find out where your loosing your coolant. It takes a very long time to burn all of the oil and coolant out of the exhaust, so it will smoke for awhile, but definitely find out where your leak is, and as previous poster mentioned, these rings go out after about 150,000 miles.

The p.o. replaced the radiator, I'm pretty sure the h.g is shot, it stops smoking whem radiator is empty, add coolant and it starts smoking

Would the intake gasket let coolant into the cylinders?
