First some back ground. I am bringing back to life a 86 b2000 2.0 5 speed, with header, and Weber carb. Started running just fine no issue but intake leak ruff idle, oil pan and rear main leak, and valve cover leak with distributor o ring leak. Fixed valve and distributor leak and some vacuum line issues, then pulled oil pan replaced rear main seal and decided to go with new clutch, pressure plate, turned flywheel. Replaced timing belt and all the plugs, wires, coil, cap, rotor. Well after all that it was doing just fine then it lost its damn mind. Now the current issue.

If it is parked running it runs for ever no issue purrs like a kitten ac blows cold no issues however if you start down the road and get up to hwy speeds like say 55 or 65 give it a couple minutes and it starts missing like its jumped timing and finally will shut off. If you check oil right after this no oil on dip stick wait a few minutes and WOW the oil is back and you can crank it up and off you go for a minute then same issue. OK i am lost what the heck is going one??? Please help this is a project me and my son started a few months ago and we are stumped now.

Have you replaced the fuel pump and filter?

Is your fuel pump mechanical or electric? When it dies out is there fuel in the fuel filter?

My thoughts exactly. I had this same type of issue. My fuel filter was getting plugged (full of nasty ass brown goop) at idle and lower rpms it ran perfect but whenever I got going highway speeds it would missfire and eventually die. Then if I cranked it over for a few it would start back up and drive perfectly fine until I got up to speed. Once I changed it out for a new one it ran perfect throughout the entire rpm range.
