ok first crack at welding up crack/holes how did i do?

i still have a 2 small holes but am tires went to work at 3am just wanted to try out the damn welder

its freekin hard to fill holes without making them bigger

That can be hard, sometimes you have to find a spot that's solid to start out on and work your way back to the holes. Another trick is you get get some copper plate, or even better take a small piece of copper tubing and hammer it down flat. Put it behind the hole to act as a backing.

Yeah the copper or brass works like a champ man. If its really thin stuff and rusting out it may not be a bad idea to put a piece of sheet behind it and weld against it to add some strength.

Will have to 2nd (3rd?) the copper trick. Welding just does not stick to copper. The nice part about what Rob said (copper tubing) is you can mold/bend the copper to fit the exact contour of the area you are welding. As Justin said, many times you have to cut out some of the thin rusty metal, then fab up a piece of filler metal and weld that in. Assume you read the thread about bye bye door handles..... tack tack tack!

so i gave my smashed roll pan to a sheet metal vendor at work and told hime to get me an estimate on a new one
her brought me one today i asked how much he said nothing it was fun to get away from industrial shit for a few hours so i got a free roll pan woot woot
