well, the wife's car took a crap on us this week.... first the oil filter spun itself off, this was my fault for not checking it to make sure it was even there in the first place, not to mention tight. then we had it towed out to the house, and we got new oil, filter, and filled her up, then we get this really loud knocking...... uh oh... so we pull it under the carport..... btw it's a 98 olds v6..... so my dad and i start taking it apart to check out the valves and the rockers, hoping that's where the knocking is.... nope they're all good.... also i forgot to mention that in order to get under the valve covers, you have to take everything except the intake manifold off.... i mean everything, including, get this, the freakin alternator.... just to get to the rear of this sidemounted piece of (place preferred expletive here) it took us about 2 1/2 hours to get the valve covers off..... oh what fun.... so we checked the rear valves/rockers, they're good...... so now it's on the the rods and lifters, had go to work, so my father continued on his quest of 50% metric 50% standard sized sockets and wrenches, and about 3 hours later i get a message saying got bad lifters...... and a short trip to autozone for the family, and i get a bill of about 200 bucks for all new rods (4 bucks each x 12) and new lifters (just replaced the bad ones at 20 bucks each), and hopefully that solves the problem... but i guess we'll find out soon enough......

thanks, yeah when dad opened it up, he found all kinds of gunk on the the lifters and rods, he said it was some real nasty stuff, but not sure how it got there, shoddy maintenance or just age and wear? who knows...the seals over the lifters, or under them, not sure, i didn't see it come apart, but the ones on the outer ends of the engine were roasted, melted pretty bad, all there just radically deformed.... but anyway, the rods will be in tues/wed, and being that i didn't see it come apart, i'm gonna wait till dad gets home and help him.... but thanks , God knows i need better luck right about now....

new clutch, new master cyl, tires and alignment .... and my pickup is running like new... well driving like new.... still need to bleed the brakes, but no shimmies down the road... and no grinding when i press the clutch...woo hoo.... oh and what did we find when we pulled the old clutch?? only that the clutch plate was in backwards..... nice..... man i love it when people put things together even though they don't know wtf they're doing....lol.... but all is well that ends well... next, buy the wife an engine if needed..... then it's on to finishing my truck........i'll throw some pics of the clutch plate up.... crappy thing is it looked damn near new, except the wear on the pressure plate teeth and the springs on what should have been the front side of the clutch plate were ground down a little.... let me correct the above statement... it's true none would know what they're doing if they didn't try to learn...which often times includes failure.... but damn....when something doesn't work properly, fix it.... i was brought up to leave everthing you plan on passing back, or off to another, in better condition than when you got it.....if we all did that.... world peace? probly not, but at least a cleaner battle field....
