stupid speed traps

Bah!

So I go into work this morning and there's a photo of my work truck posted on the wall in the office. Not exactly the kind of photo you want to see either. It's a photo radar picture.

I got nabbed last week while we were super busy and running around like mad. I was making a delivery 2 blocks from my house and I got picked off by the photo radar during school hours in a school zone doing 47kmh in a 30kmh zone. (roughly 30mph in a 20mph zone).

Stupid thing is, it's a main residential road, with townhouses on one side, and the playing field of the school, which is nowhere near the road and a public park, both of which are fenced off. So why they make this particular 500m stretch a school zone boggles me.

This is my first speeding ticket since my last one in 2004 and even though it does not affect my points, insurance or my wallet, as the company covers your first photo radar offence, I am rather ticked off that I got nailed because I always follow the posted limit and never do more than 10 over in the work truck.

Just needed to vent. Guess I can stop gloating about how I haven't gotten a phot radar ticket yet. One of our installers got one 2 weeks agof or 108kmh in a 90. That was bad until I got mine, which the fine is doubled because it's in a school zone.

Thats bunk. They stopped using photo radar here a couple years back.

Damn..Sux to hear that. At least your company pays for it. I know at my wifes company if they get caught speeding or in a wreck it is all on them...then again they very seldom speed or get stopped and they win EVERY wreck they are in. They are armored trucks.

well that just stinks the last ticket i got was for like wreckless and prohibited driving and the ticket was for 150 dollers and i also got a totaled truck i didn't kno you could total a 93 2200 doing 35 and know i'm probation

My previous ticket in 2004 was for 98mph in a 60. That one hurt my ass.

The ONLY time I see the speed limit is when I'm passing it.
I got a friend who's a lawyer... He turns all mine into parking tickets.

I like how you said "I always follow the posted limit and never do more than 10 over in the work truck." lol. Well, uh, that is speeding, and will/can get ya busted. Sorry, that line it self is hillarious.

I've had my share of tix. Had 12 points in my first 6 months of driving. Had my license suspended 3-5 times...once for 2 years...though I got it shortened to about 6 months. Eventually we learn...hopefully before we hurt someone.

Damn, I've never had a speeding ticket ever, had my license for almost 9 years. I've done plenty of speeding, but I really prefer low and slow unless on the track

It's kinda hard to do 30kmh through a poorly marked school/playground zone for 1 block when the speedlimit is 50kmh on the road. So, considering I was radared at 47, I was below the 'normal' speedlimit, yet still obviously above the school zone speed.

2 factors played a role in this ticket for me;

1. I'm new in Alberta and not used to photo radar usage, because we never had it in Ontario for the 7 years I've been driving
2. In Ontario, school zones are 40kmh, whereas they are 30 here in Alberta, which I find a little rediculous, as you can walk faster.

But whatever. That's my first ticket and my company was generous enough to pay the ticket for me AND give me a raise on the same day.
