I had to take my kids to a soccer game in a town about 15 miles away. Stopped at my buddies house to see what's been up, low and behold he had this 88 RX-7 turbo sitting by his 240. I asked him what was up with it, he said well it starts and runs but then it starts to smoke so I don't know what I want to do with it. I kinda figure it's oil control rings, or turbo seals, but he said he didn't want to mess with it so I ask how much he says cover the fuel it cost him to tow it cause he got it from some lady for free. So for $40 bucks I have a turbo II, that may need motor overhauled at worst, and a dent pulled out of the drivers side fender otherwise it is clean.

So my goal is to get it home in the next two weeks, and have it all done up within three years, giving the next year to the truck to get it bagged.

Most likely the Apex Seals are gone....

It should smoke a little bit upon start-up at all times, this is normal, because the oil drips into the bowl on the rotor so when you start it up its got some lubrication, hence the smoke, which is being burnt off...

Rotary engines are a great power plant if you know/can take care of them and have the funds to do so...

I've had too many RX-7's and the T2 was by far my favorite, that's why it's sitting outside...Lol!

I had thought about using it for truck, but I have always wanted a T2 so I plan on just making a nice street car.

It shouldn't be the apex seals, they work like the top rings of a piston. It is more than likely some one ran it low on oil, or overheated it thermal pellet probably took a crap which would cause it to blow out the oil control rings. If it was ran for too long oil control rings would be toast. Either way I plan on a complete teardown to inspect and replace all seals and bearings it's only got 99k on the clock but it might as well be new so I can get a few more ponies out of it.
