So i bought my current mazda b2000 a few weeks ago and have run a couple tanks out of the ole truck. My first tank was averaging 15.5 mpg. My second and third tanks have avged about 16.33 mpg. Is this what I should expect to be getting outta this little 2.0? Little back ground, she is BONE STOCK running the ole carb with a 5 speed tranny. She is an ext cab. So far i have done the basics changing fuel filter, new thermostat, adjusted the timing a little which got me the almost 1 mpg gain, and adjusted the idel set screw as was ideling high. I just bought some NGK G power plugs i am gonna try tommorrow. Any Hints or am I just gonna have to live with v8 milage without the v8 power?

^^^wow.... for cereal? i get 24-26 mpg out of my 2.6 liter... 5sp daily driven...

maybe try carb/injector cleaner additive in with the next fill up? i used carb/injector cleaner, octane boost, and fuel treatment to my tank every couple months (did this on my 89 2.2 when i had it), and my mpg has always been over 22mpg, both trucks. my 2.2 usually got 21-24. my 2.6 averages 24, but has been seen as high as 28mpg, and its got 259k miles on it...

Did run some sea foam thru it and seemed to help a little. I noticed that several of the guys like the NGK brand plugs... gonna try a set in the am....

yeah... but its a 2.6! bigger engine usually doesnt mean better mileage. but i do like how less gutless mine is over the 2.2. i thought my mileage was going to go to sh!t when i got the 2.6. my 2.2 was carbed, and felt "quick" enough for me... but after driving the 2.6, i dont think i could go back... that and mileage was about same between my carb'd 2.2 and my fi 2.6

as for plugs, it is a japanese engine, and the NGK's are "supposed" to be specially designed to provide better efficiency for japanese engines (not sure how much i believe that, but i still buy NGK, usually the cheaper plugs). also check cap/rotor, and wires... the older those are the worse your mileage as with any vehicle... maybe upgrade igntion if you plan to really get into your truck.
