Tweed is the easiest material to start with. The only real tools that you will need is glue and an electric stapler. The rest you do with stretching.

Material and glue:

If you don't want to order online you can try the 3M Super 22 (I think) from Home Depot. You can also pick up a cheap electric stapler from there as well. There is only one local store within about a 100 km radius from me that stocks tweed so it may be a little harder to find it depending on where you live.

Before you spray any glue stretch the fabric around what you are wrapping and see if you can do it without any seams or folds. Tweed will wrap around most items. Spray it with the glue and wait untill it tacks up, then apply the material. A couple of tips is that tweed does have a grain. Make sure you lay it out right. Also I use colored glue (its yellow) so that I can see it better than clear. I find it easier to see how much and where I have sprayed the glue.

If the material cannot wrap around the item then it's time for a sewing machine. Buy a used one off kijiji, ebay, craigs list, etc and start messing around. Good luck.

Oh, and if you are wrapping plastic or anything else that you would use a silicone product (Like armorall, etc) clean it well. For added adhesion you can scuff it.

They used to have a really good selection of tweed. Also try your local upholstry shops. If your doing the door panels don't forget about a good sound deadener, it will be worth the extra dough. When doing around the designs use a screen door roller to press it into the grove. works well. There is a door panel tech article that I made a long time ago on here.
