If you get a bassinet, you'll use it for about 6 months. I wasted money with my first born on one of these.

A pack-n-play is great for traveling, but not recommended for long term bedding. I bought one of these... lasted through 3 kids.

You can use a crib for about 3 years if it has adjustable levels for the mattress.
As the kid grows, you lower the mattress and ultimately remove the sliding gate. This has more of a bed look and feel.
After that, take it apart and store it until the next kid comes along.

Gracco makes a great Multi age Crib. You can use this for all heights in a crib then a toddler bed and then even a twin. Now as for a bassinet... A pack and play it perfect. You can set it up in your room next to the bed for the first few weeks then move the baby to the crib in their room. at 2 months or so both of my kids where in their own room. The pack and play can then be used while camping, traveling, etc..... We had a bassinet with the second child...only because someone bought it for us. It has been stored since she was 3 months old... good luck and don't ever think you will be prepared...it just is not possible. Well unless your Todd or Jeff(lofo) they have an army of kids and are pros. LOL

i havent read what everyone else has said but i would suggest a 3 in one combo wich is a crib to a toddler bed to a almost a jr size they a little bit spendy around 2 to 3 hundred but thats better then buying three different ones at 6 to 7 hundred over the years just my 2cents.

we bought both. i dont really like the little beds inthe pack n play. and plus it is huge if you have a small room like us. so we went with a nice bassinet for now and will maybe go to the pack n play. but honestly with callan he just ended up sleepin in bed with us, easier for cher to feed him. i have a feeling the same will happen with autumn lol

We've always had a pack n play, and a crib. Had a bassinet for the last 2, but only because someone gave it to us. The pack n plays are great, cuz you can take them with you if you go somewhere, since I don't need mine at home anymore, it is at Nana's house so he can nap there. They can only use the top piece in the pack n play as a bassinet for about 3 months tops, but then you can just lay em in the bottom. The bassinet is useless after the baby is 3 months, or younger if he's big, until you have another kid to use it.
And they're so right about the crib, get the convertable kind.

bassinets are a waste! we had our boys inone only in our room the first little bit. just get a crib that you can adjust. the bottom can raise up n down for the ages, then you should be able to change to toddler bed. pack n plays are good for trips n overnights
and if you dont have them already, go garage saling!! you can get good quality items for cheaper then new. but if you buy a crib, spend the money for a new mattress!
