so i was undoin the torsion bar bolts. ones closer to the rear and the passenger side broke and flew underneith the truck. thank God it didnt hit me. but now i need to know how do i extract the bolt? it has a couple of inches left to wrench on but the head of it broke off. and can i just use same size bolt but better strength to replace? any hlep will be appreciated.

the torsion bolt screws into a T shaped "mount" of sorts that rests freely in a groove of the frame. Simply push up on it and rotate, it will slide right out. If your under there you can glance at it and see exactly what I mean. VERY EASY. Then you have it in your hand and can probably unscrew it by hand....or a set of pliers at worse. As for new bolt....I suppose finding an exact replacement would work but make sure its OEM strength or stronger....FINDING that bolt would be a chore unless Fastenall or someone like that carries one. You might as well hit a salvage yard and just grab a couple off another Mazda...g\l

sorry I have missed this....not sure what you mean...you do have to jack the truck up and get the tension off the torsion bar before getting it back in place. Send me a PM if you are still having issues and need some help

Yes, you can cut the bolt above the crescent washer. BE CAREFUL though, the bar has a ton of tension on it still. I would not recommend being under the truck and use multiple jack stands. Probably over kill advise, but I hate to think of one of us getting hurt by our trucks. I would get new bolts from Mazda if that option is available for you. They are extra tough and I doubt your local fastener store has high grade, long, metric bolts. Good luck and please be safe. -Ed

what exactlly is re-indexing the torsions? never done or heard of this...when i built hb's in the past we just took them out(if bagging) or cranked them down for static....

its where you rotate the bar in its mounts so it dont hing down under the frame, a HD is a little different setup and you can get lower on the bar befor needing to do this to a HD
