I was looking around at another B2000 series its an 86. I didnt have my camera or id show pics. It was in pretty good shape as far as the interior. The paint was faded and sunburnt. The bed was in good shape no major rust. My B Longbed has holes of rust (some as big as a foot) I was going to do some welding or cut it out and put wood.. But I got to thinking maybe if I bought another B and made a frankenBseries I would end up with a better truck. This one is at a junk yard and it was just towed in 123k which is less then mine, the clutch is burnt up but the engine runs great no smoking on starting or anything. I checked the oil and it was black and grungy, I stuck my finger in the oil filer hole to see how bad it was and it was sludge city. It had the typical ticking but not excessively loud. It has a leaky valve cover and oil pan gasket. I am guessing the owner figured if they add a quart now and then its the same as changing it. (dumb***) This b is a short bed 5 sp, I can get it for 550.
Long story short, If I buy this truck what should I do to clean out the engine of that sludge, what kind of oil should I use?
change the oil and filter to any good 10w-40,put in a half can of Seafoam, run the truck 500 miles or so change the oil and filter again put 1/4 can of Seafoam in the oil and put the rest in ur tank.be prepared to change the valve cover gasket and put a new PCV valve in as well.Use only a Maz factory filter or I believe a Wix filter as they have the flapper valve that keeps some oil in the upper end so the truck wont dry start. That should clean her out like Epsom salts in a widder woman.Lol.bj
sweet thanks for the tip bj
Thanks! I never messed with seafoam before so I didnt want to try it without some insight. I am going to see if the truck is still there tomorrow when I get paid. I will post some pics if I get it.
good luck with the truck.Post up the pics as there are beaucoup pic whores here who have to have their daily fix.Im not one of them but then who am I??? The resident old fart.Hee-hee.BJ
Went to get the truck Saturday Morning, and someone had took the carb, intake, radiator, distributor and alternator off it. I was still kinda interested so I talked to the guy and they still wanted $550 for it. I didn't buy it. Surprisingly around the intake it was still very clean.
I got the sludge.....and some seafoam....guess where I am headed for? I usually only pu it in the intake thru a vacuum hose run it till it quits smoking.....you saying dumping it in the oil will clean all that sludge out? I know when I pulled my PCV it was sludged up inside...its pretty black in there
If u pour it in the intake, all u will clean is the upper end. What about the crankcase and valve train?bj
this is the first motor I have had that is this bad internally....all the rest of my motors have been either brand new and maintained by myself of well taken care of.....even my 98 kia looked almost new inside there....it barely even smoked when the seafoam went in....and that was a 130,xxx mile motor.
I just know I got lied to about this engine...CLAIMED rebuilt...it hasnt...no 2000 mile rebuilt engine would look this horrible inside
I plan on building another engine and swapping it out....but the current one needs to stay running for now till new engine aquired and built
