I'm wondering when you guys shift your trucks.
My engine is bone stock and i shift about 3000rpm for regular driving, and about 4200rpm when i really need to get off quickly through the first 3 gears.
I know these engines make peak power around 4800 rpm, so there isn't much need to shift any higher, but where do you all shift for normal driving?
I bought a cluster with a tack but I don't think I've looked at it once while driving or even shifting at that. Its all about the sound.
my cluster didn't have a tach, so i mounted a small one in front of the fuel gauge. I only really looked at it when i first got it, but no that i'm used to how the engine sounds, i too shift by ear. I was just wondering where abouts most people shift. I've noticed that the engine pulls harder right after 3000rpm.

i was amazed when i put mine in just cuz of how loud the motor was. sounded like it was screamin but then i put the tach in and i'm only shiftin bout 2800. everyone swears i'm rapin on it shiftin. even had the cops yell at me for it.
so i shift before 3. if i'm just cruzin slow i shift bout 2000.
3k normal driving.....4500 if I am gassing......I need a exhaust....my intake makes all the noise right now
god damn you mofos are insane, i shift at 3500 at the highest because of the insane noise like its gonna blow up and die. im gonna try going to 4500 though. but i got a 2.2 so i think you guys got a 2.6 right?
I am a 2600 bro.....but most often I shift at like 3k usually.
Nah p3arl, i'm rolling in a bone stock B2200 efi (other than a cherry bomb glass-pack). You'll notice that when you get past about 3000rpm, the engine has more balls (it's harder to notice in fourth and fifth due to the gear ratio) and it get louder since there is virtually no sound deadening in these trucks.
If you put your boot in it and shift at 4500rpm, it actually sounds good with the glass-pack, and it can get going pretty good.
The problem with these engines is they have a long(ish) stroke with a smaller bore, so you don't want to drive past 4500rpm (even though they redline at 5500rpm)
2000/2200 trucks make max hp and torque at about 3500 rpm.go past that and ur making a lot of noise and getting a fanny massage but not helping matters much.lol.bj
i dont shift lol well once i tried to start in second you can see me hit first right at the start.I got first in my class it think my time was 58.89
just for laughes
yea shifting should be done around 3000 for normal driving. Yea its weird how you feel the pull above ,but if you shift normal you dont get the speed lost of reving and then shifting unless you shift in" 2/10ths of a second" (Deathrace2000)
I have done a lot of driving and shifting to find the max power for racing and i have found that a smoother shifting gets me better time also ujonts last longer. just my02cents
