well first of all, do you really want to make them entirely red, or just the trun signals and brake lights? if you make the reverse lights red, the light will shine tthrough pink (unless the lenses are dark red), and you may get pulled over. just paint the brake lights and turn signals, it'll look real clean.
First i have to credit crazymikey for this process, i only learned about it from him.
-ideally you want to completely remove the lense from the truck, but you can just remove the tail light assembly if you want (don't leave the assembly in the truck cause you could get overspray on the body)
-clean the lense on both sides if possible with some light duty cleaner (paint thinner, laquer thinner, brake cleaner or alcohol but make sure you don't use too much or the thinners may eat the plastic or turn the lense foggy)
-mask off the parts you don't want painted (reverse light, bezel etc.) with good masking tape, not that weak stuff for maksing walls in houses (it's not very sticky)
-get some Duplicolor MetalCast red paint (it's like a tinted clearcoat) and apply a few light coats
-if you have removed the entire lense from the truck, spray a couple coats on the back side aswell, as it will help get rid of the amber tones through the lense
-this step is optional, but you can spray a couple coats of clear over the entire lense, which will hide the maksing line builcup and help protect the paint from scratches
-if you ever want to undo the paint, just rub it off with some more thinners.
with any luck, you're tails will look like this.
