Curious to see what people are running and why. I use full synthetic in my Volkswagens because that's what they were shipped with from the Fatherland, but does anybody here run synth in their B and what are the benefits?

if you like having to put oil in your truck often then synthetic would be good.

Mobil 1 in all my rides including the B.advantages are better top end oiling, less wear and friction.Disadvantages are cost, more oil consumption if your rings arent in good shape, and oil leaks if ur gaskets are toast.

i've heard that if you broke your engine in and ran it for a good portion of it's life on natural oil, that switching to synthetic may cause leaks or excessive wear on seals.
All oils have a seal swell rate, which is how much a seal will expand when it absorbs engine oil. So if you used natural oil with one swell rate and then switch to synthetic with a lower seal rate, your rear main seal and other seal may start leaking. Or if the syn's swell rate is higher, the seals may wear out faster.
Ultimately i want to run full syn, but not before i can be assured this won't happen.
One more thing, as some may have noticed, these manual transmission can get really hard to shift when cold (may truck wouldn't let you shift into second when i had just started after sitting outside for a while). My uncle also has a B, and he told me to use full syn in the tranny, and sure enough, the trans problems disappeared immediately.
