so I sent an email to Slam Specialties via there technical guy they have posted on the web sight. Which went like so:

I mean that was so helpful, I figured the re 5 will work too but I was hoping for a real spec cause the sheet on the page doesn't tell me what I was asking.

I'm not bashing the company or there products just, have some one that will answer a real question with a legitimate answer, if you don't know anything about the product you are supplying then why are you in a position to answer questions about it in the first place.

So if anyone has the answer I was looking for I would appreciate it.

sleepy if you have a 6 and need more room than get a 5 its an inch smaller ,slams don't expand barely at all ,that why they already are bellowed ,and have internal bump stops to keep from expanded ,they go straight up and down that's how they are made, slam is by far one of the best companies out there ,maybe he misunderstood question?but here is there spec sheet in case ,and you can check on comparison chart too. that helps if you need a 1/2 5's will work but wont give you that much lift compared to the 6's .cant you just move mounting bracket?

well actually the 5 is only .5" smaller. and I know slams don't expand much but they do. the 6's go from 6" diameter at rest or normal sitting on the shelf height, to 6.5" total diameter when completely collapsed.

how ever I bolted the whole front end together today and really got to looking at my setup and measuring every thing. my upper mount I located just right as to use it as a limiter for raising the suspension, when I set that I was looking at fender to tire gap which was very close to stock height. this leaves exactly 8" between upper and lower bag brackets which is all a re 5 will lift, the 6 lifts 10" but completely collapsed I still have the needed 3" between plates.

The only issue I was having with the 6 is it touching the frame a little on the top below and the lower below laying on the ball joint mount ears. but if the 5 did not go over 6" diameter collapsed it will never rub in either spot. Also what has caused the 6 not to fit well is the angle I installed the uppers they are very close to level compared to most of the setups I have seen done here, but I had an idea when I did it that way I just didn't think into the bag expanding.

a 5" bag that extends to the 8" you need will never reach that 8" because of the weight of the truck. you'll never get the full bag extension with weight on it. however with the leverage action of the bag on the near mid-point of the control arm you might get 8" of body/frame travel with a light duty bag.
