If my tires are 205/40-16, what would my rim width have to be? trying to see if something will work on my truck
depends if your looking to stretch the tire on the rim? 7.5" or 8"
LOOK AT IT THIS WAY... ( a canadian might be able to help me out here as well)
1" = 25.4 millimeters.
the 205 stands for 205 millimeters
the 40 stands for the aspect ratio of the sidewall to the actual tread width. basically its 40% of 205mm.
that equals 82mm (10% of 205 is 20.5 x 4 = 82.0mm)
so if 205 / 25.4 = 8.07" so you could fit that particular tire on a 7.0"-8.0" wheel. preferably put it on a 7.0-7.5" wheel. if you have an 8" wheel i'd run a 215/40/16 im my opinion.
let me know if you need anymore help.

205 usually is on a 5.5 - 6.5" wide wheel coming from the factory. Usually they're on 5.5-6" but there's a few out there that put em on 6.5.
my z71's were either 16x7 or 16x8 and i had 205/40/16 stuffed onto them....
i have 15x8 now. i am sure they won't do what i am thinking. a guy on ebay has the exact same wheels, but his are 16's, but didn't give the width. was just wondering!
