i wanna make my own and i need to know what thickness the metal is and dimensions.. i'am gunna make it at school and the teacher needs this info so he can go buy me the materials i need
16ga. would weld in nice. not sure what the stock hood sheet metal is but that's what I made mine out of. It is thinner than 16ga. but I made do.
oh and as far as dimensions I took my plate and added how deep I wanted it to be recessed all the way around I.E. 1 inch recess add one inch all around. and wouldn't hurt to add an 1/8" to your plate size to account for bending.
If you want I can do a how-to I took step by step pics. It just won't get done till tomorrow.
you can make it as big or small as you want cody... just take your tag and trace it out on the metal... then cut 1/8" or 1/4" larger then your tag and of course square the corners unless you can get the bends to match all the way around... and you can make it as deep or shallow as you want, usually 1" 1.5" or 2" deep... i think the rounding of the tag box would be tits.... on and for bolt, drill two 3/8"s hole and weld a 3/8"s nut on the back side, get two short 3/8 bolts and there ya go... on and tag lights you could use the stock one just need to cut the same hole for it in the new tag box....
i made mine outta an old tailgate is like 1 1/2" deep but i had to trim my tag a lil cause i forgot to add a lil extra for the tag itself and for bolts i went to autozone and got a set of tag bolts that had the domed nuts and just welded the bolts to the backside of the box
cool thanks guys.. i will tell my teacher what i need and he'll go buy it for me..
i wish i had cool tearchers like that my last shop teacher wouldent even let me in the shop becouse he thought i was gonna steal something he was a fagot
Hope it turns out well...
