GOOD NEWS...maybe.

Well, while looking through the local junkyard for some mazda parts, I came across and amazingly clean x cab. Well I left and went back later in the day and pulled the door for my truck, and then I started to talk to my mom. Now keep in mind that I am 16 so this is a little less weird...Anyways, as I was talking to her I was like this truck was so clean, man I would love to take it home. I than told her it was x cab so I wouldn't have to keep my tools in the bed of mine. I think that is what sold her, but she is like well tomorrow you take your dad out there and have him look at it and if it is good enough we can try and buy it. So, considering there is no cosmetic damage I am assuming there is something wrong with the engine. So my question is, how hard would it be to swap my engine entirely transmission and all over to the new truck and get it running? If this would be to hard, is it possible to take an x cab's bed and put it on a short bed single cab?

as for swapping the engine and trans, it's pretty straight forward. I would recommend labeling hoses and wires with some masking tape to help remember what went were. but the x-cabs bed is too short in front of the tire to go behind single cab short box.

Ok, I didn't thing it would work guess I am just going to have to do some more convincing then. My mom doesn't think there is anything wrong with doing it, but my dad thinks it will cost to much money to go through with.

Doing the swap isn't hard at all. I'm assuming you haven't done this before but don't let that worry you. These little 4 bangers are small and easy to work on. I think you wouldn't have a hard time at all if you have the right tools to disassemble everything properly. Grab a Chiltons/Haynes book and get started .

LOL, well I am trying to get in contact with my mechanic right now, my dad thinks it will be to expensive to do the swap but I don't really think it will be as expensive as he thinks.

i think the hardes part for you will be the vaccum hoses. my first swap was a TBI 350 in my 91 roadmaster. it was fairly easy cuz it didn't have all the vaccum runnin everywhere and the plugs all mated up easy by lookin at their shapes.

also when labelin hoses, if you pull out nut/bolt combo, keep 'em together and label them to where they go.

if you have spare parts left over dont worry...you can seel them on here and its less weight!

easiest thing to do is pull the entire intake off the block with the carb still atached and hook it off to the side still hooked up to all the hoses. this will make life easier with that spaghetti of hoses.

Last year or so when I was 17 I pulled my motor did a rebuild and put it all back together as well as putting in tonnes of new parts and to tell you the truth it sucked. There were a lot of issues with minor things, most of which was to do with my engine sucking but it ended up costing me tonnes more then I thought it would. I am glad now (other then the fact my hydraulic clutch is broken again!) that I did it however but I am still not done and am now getting ready for my complete paint and body makeover....

So pretty much just saying make sure your engine is in top notch running condition before you break it down and label lots.

A major problem for you will be getting the truck from the junkyard certifiable and emissions unless it hasn't been hacked apart at all at the junk yard but it is now without a door lol.

Expect to spend lots more then you plan for and good luck if you do.

Well, the truck is amazing and it is only missing a door and some small interior pieces like knobs and such. But I am not to concerned because my truck has everything it is missing. I also talked to my mechanic last night, and he said it would be super easy to do, he said we could pull the engine/transmission combo and throw it in there. He also said he hopes there is nothing wrong with the axle but once again I have a good axle if needed. I honestly think if I can get the truck for a good price that it would be totally worth it, but I first have to get the truck for a good price.

good luck its an easy swap bro just make sure its not a 2600I because the exhaust is on the opposite side as yours also if yours is carbed make sure the xcab is carbed as well
