Hey guys,
I have the door panels which extend all the way to the glass. There is no metal piece at the very top. You can see which panels I have in this picture.

If I get a set of door panels which do have the metal piece, will all the installation holes fit the same?
The reason I want to switch is so I can build a speaker position easier by building a new panel.

If this would work, is there anyone in BC/Washington that has a set of these for sale?

The top part of the panel can be removed from the inside of the panel. Then the top of the door will be exposed, that is the metal part which is exposed on most trucks. The only problem with taking off the top part of the panel is that you will need a spacer for the lock and the interior felt part to keep the window from rubbing on the door, which acts like a spacer as well as a weather strip. The installation holes can be re-drilled to match the old panel or you may want to reuse the same the lower part of the panel.

Or you can make your own like these. There is a tech, "how to" article on here.

funny you should mention that sierra...once I had figured out the differences between the two types of panels, I was going to ask if you wanted to come out of retirement but your tech-article is so kick-ass, almost anyone can do it!

So if I understand...all panels are the same, except...on some (like mine) the top metal piece is covered in the vinyl material which is usually only present on the bottom part of most other trucks. Also, if I take apart the 2 pieces and make my own bottom panel, I have to make a spacer/squeegee type thing to go at the top of the door panel against the inside of the window.
This is what I'm gettin from woz's post.

For those pieces you have to go to the wreckers or get a set from someone on here. Also try eBay. I just sold my last set on there about a month ago.

***Also, if you use your old full panel as a template for a new one, make sure you add on to the top of the panel and add the new clip holes( I think that its a half an inch). To figure it out just put your panels back on the door once you have them apart you will see the gap between your old panel and the top part of the door. Just measure the gap and add it to the top of your panel.

Thanks Sierra I'll look around for the pieces I need.
