OK. So this may be the stupidest question/request ever posted....but hopefully it'll help more than just me on some ideas........
I know the general consensus of moving from the stock rims on any vehicle to any larger rim is going to affect ride quality. Been there done that with many cars (audi/bmw/chevy/etc.). Understand that as the rim gets bigger the sidewall gets smaller (thereby giving harsher ride). Add in the fact the larger tire/smaller sidewall combo is usually getting into a 'performance' category tire (because of the tire profile), and the overall ride can get downright harsh.
And that's what I'm trying to avoid, all while possibly getting better looking (bigger) rims/tires and being static dropped in the rear with cranked torsions for the front. My B is a daily work driver, with the needed capacity of carrying 400lbs in the bed 6-8 times/month. I'd love to go to 17s, but worried on the ride. Browsing Craigslist for the past few days......and there are TONs of options in rims in my area.
My current setup is stock springs w/helpers in the rear, along with a 3" drop blocks. New Gabriel Gas Ryder shocks. Stock rims/tires (for now). Ride is very decent, albeit a bit bouncy on the rear when not loaded (still working the tension on the helpers to find the right mix).
So, I'm looking for some opinions of your 'ride', based on what you have done to your truck(s).
I know it's a very subjective topic. But, let's see how you think your setup 'rides'.
What wheel/tire size combo do you have?
What suspension work and/or parts?
Is the ride harsh? Bouncy? Plush?
16 inch Centerlines,215 x45x16 Falken zx's,Tokico gas shocks,Belltech rear sway bar,new bushings in the front end, ride is tight but not obnoxious and handles great.stock ride height, stock rear springs.
205/50/17 and you'll be good enough to be low,yet still have a compliant ride and be able to carry stuff. When it comes to lowering your truck in the back and wanting to carry stuff,DO NOT remove any leaf springs. Leave them alone,or go get them de-arched.
^pretty good suggestion. Also, a good set of shocks can make a big difference in ride quality. At least you are on the right trak with the Gabriels.
