i have a yellow top in my car and it's around 8-10 months old. last week i had my stereo (2 amps) on volume 1 with the car off and i didn't realize 4 hours went by (i was doing homework) and the car wouldn't start. i got a jump and it lasted until i got out of class and started but since it doesn't have much charge, over night it may drain and not start the car. i have a die hard 2a/10a battery charger and i've set it on the charger at both settings over night and it won't charge it. the battery has enough charge to do anything but start the car. should i have the battery tested or should i take it to someone (like kragen/riebes) who may be better equipped to charge it back up? i haven't had this issue before.

You could have it tested. It probably has a dead cell. Ive seen quite a few people with problems like this with optima's.

Yellow tops are notorious for this. Certain batches will do this. Get it warrantied if its new enough, or buy another one.

i just got back from riebes and they guy told me that it's in perfect running order, it just needs a good full day on a 2 amp charge, we'll see what happens i guess. good thing i just bought a daily haha.

I was going to say, you need to do a 2 amp charge for a day or two, when they get drained like that all the way they need a long 2amp trickle charge

I have had 2 Optimas die on me in the SAME fashion ( one red and one yellow )....totally drained a couple of times and after that neither would hold a charge...even with the slow trickle charge...I finally gave up on both of them

i left it charging for 24 hours at 2amp and then it sat for a day and i put it in the car and it started. after that the car sat for a week and when i tried to start it it was dead once again.

the battery says 'deep cycle and starting' so should i use a deep cycle charger?
this battery thing is all new to me. i may just give up on this one and find something not deep-cycle, but i paid $200 for this thing.

If its 8-10 months old it should be under warranty still. Try giving optima a call or take it back where you bought it from.
