does anyone else here use the lincoln pro mig 140? if so have you ever had any problems with the wire feed falling out of the welder. everytime i use it, it falls out and pisses me off. i have to hold it to the welder with one hand and weld with the other. and it isn't working to well if you know what i mean. what can i do to solve this? thanks.

I'm hoping there is a difference in terminology here. Because if in fact your wire feeder is falling out when you try to use it, then you have big problems. What it sounds like may be happening is that the wire is forcing the leader out of the welder housing where the wire is fed into the liner? If so, this could be a few things. The first thing I would do is pull out the liner and inspect it for any kinks, and blow it out with compressed air a few times. Try to keep it straight throughout the process, they are easy to kink.

Now the next thing I can think of, which I am unsure of because I am not familiar with smaller Lincolns, is the camp or retaining device on the end of the lead of the gun. The small Miller use O-rings. If these are shot it will fit loosely, and combine with some dirt or kinks in the liner could push the lead out. Also this would cause the clamp not to hold correctly because it clamps mostly on the inner O-ring.

Worst case scenario, you could buy a nicer gun. The smaller Lincoln guns aren't worth much IMO. In fact neither are the guns on the larger machines, Lincoln or Miller. Bernard and then Tweco is where its at.

cool man thanks. yeah i mean the gun but what i consider the gun is what you actually hold. the liner being coiled must be my problem. it must be getting kinked. i will try pulling it all the waiy out straight here shortly.

where can i get a good deal on the bernard or the tweco guns?

thanks again man.

I've got one & haven't had a prob with it at all, twisted is right, the gun is not the nicest piece i've used, but it works....try a local welding supply house like airgas or maybe eastwood, or heck even lincolns site....I will say this tho, it won't be cheap, but will be well worth what you pay.

double check those thinga, do you have the right size tip in it for the wire your using? or the tip might be stopped up with slag, or if it got too hot, it could have egg shaped the hole that the wire feeds out of, and is causing the wire to bind up.....deffinately make a nice long coil with the lead to keep from kinking the inner liner.

I hope it isn't too bad off...

Yeah the liner is probably your best bet in this situation. Thats all I can think of. Because it is creating resistance.

Bernard guns can be bought directly from them. They are around $300-400 however. If you have a PraxAir anywhere near you, they sell Bernard, Tweco, and one other brand that is better than Tweco, and comparable with Bernard, but I am spacing the name right now. They sell them cheaper than anywhere online I have seen.

And you can get a Tweco gun on eBay for about $150 shipped with all the Lincoln attachments.

well, it is still doing the same shit. i wonder if my gas pressure is to high? i have it set around 35 to 40 when i pull the trigger. is that to high maybe? i put a new tip on it but i have a problem with getting slag on the tip. it keeps doing it. i tried pulling it further away, puting it closer, changing wire speeds. but again i think that it is due to a to high gas pressure. what do you think?

I run about 17-20 PSI as far as gas goes.

Did you blow out the liner? Check the entrance for any burs? Does it clamp in place internally? Could be stripped.

15-20 pounds for gas is just right.

I know it may not be answer to your problem, but avoid getting slag on the contact tip! Go out and buy yourself a thing of tip dip/nozzle gel to keep slag off the gun.

This stuff is awesome. But if you do get it, heres a tip. Use the welder first. Lay down some hot beads, a decent amount of weld time. The tip should be too hot to handle with bare hands. At this point dip the nozzle into the gel and let it sit until the next time you weld. And do this after you weld every time while the gun is still hot. This is the only way the stuff really does its job.
