Wiring harness; Help!

Okay guys, I somehow got onto the project of removing my wiring harness for the truck! I removed the passenger side harness from the computer to the clips for emissions and to a couple clips that have a boot over them. It seems like the whole harness goes in a circle!

Okay. I need to know what I need to salvage on the harness! I've got the tape off the harness and by looking at it, some wires recirculate to the computer! How do I seperate the wiring for the wipers if it goes to the computer?

I've also got a problem... Either I disconnected something I should'nt have, or I may have shorted out the wiper motor? All I can say is that a ground wire accidentally hit the + terminal on the battery, and I dunno if that shorted the motor, but no matter what I do, the motor does'nt work!

I need your help guys! Sun is going down! Also, I'm going to have full functionality of my truck right? Cause when it circluates to the other side, it seems like the ECU does something? I dunno... NEED response ASAP, please!

Couple of quick questions...

Are you getting rid of the ECU?

Do you have access to a Haynes/Chiltons manual? - Most have wiring diagrams.

I have removed the ECU and all ECU wiring from both of my trucks. Wipers will work w/o ECU.

If I can ge rid of the ECU, that would be great! Is'nt the ECU just there for the emissions? I dunno what the deal is, but I have a "white" smoke coming out of my exhaust. It smells like gas! What is that all about? My dad has me all freaked out I did something when I pulled ther harness! I don't think it is anything big.. But I'd like to know why it is doing that!

I've got the harness pulled. I'm thinking I shorted out my wiper motor when the ground touched the + terminal! I would like to get the wiring singled out so I can see if it will work or not...

I have a Chiltons manual. BTW, the quick connector that is inside the cab that is wired with the wipers, what is the rest of the wiring for? Some of the wires go to the computer!

Heres some pics:

The wires to the left go to the wipers. The ones that go to the right is to the rest of the harness.

Besides this harness connecting to the emissions and wipers, what else did it go to?

Ok, first things first. Assuming yours is a 1989 B2200 with a Weber - You do not need the ECU for the engine to run correctly. I say this, because I have 2 B2200s in the garage that way.

From the wiring diagrams I have, the following wires should run to the wiper motor:
Blue with Black should be 12+
Blue with White shoud be 12- low speed
Blue with Yellow should be 12- high speed
Black is also a 12- and must be connected to ground

As for the rest of the wires from the plug under the dash that go to the computer, these are power/ground wires that connect to the ignition switch, some dash indicators, and to some other computer control functions on the drivers side inner fender. Does your Chiltons have a wiring diagram with the colors listed? If so, that is your best bet for sorting out the wires. All wires that are associated with the 2 computer plugs can be eliminated. I is just a matter of following each one from the computer back to the source or component. Normally, this would require exposing all the wires in the truck (not good, not required) With the wiring diagrams, you should only have to go back to a connector (like the one in your picture).

As for the white smoke, your Weber (or what ever it is) may be set to rich. Tough to diagnose over the internet.

The ignition system on these trucks (distributor & ignition coil) are a completely separate system from the ECU.

If it were'nt so looked down upon as gay, I would hug you, lol!

Okay, so I had to replace my brake master cylinder today, but now I'm working on the harness with the little light that is left!

I was hoping someone would post, and whattya know! I looked in my chilons manual, and it said the same thing you did.

My wiper motor was'nt bad! I'm just an idiot! I overlooked the fact that I did'nt turn the key to ON! LOL! I've had a migrane for like 4 days straight now, leave me alone!

Well, immortal, what did you do to the wires? I was just thinking about cutting all the wires that were "extra" on the harness from the connector with the wiper wiring inside.

But I dunno if I'll lose anything? LOL! So, If I ran into a problem, I could just re-butt connect 'em, LOL! I'll tell you, it makes me so frustrated to look at a wiring diagram! I get confused with all the lines, lol...

Well, I suppose I should ask you this, did you cut your wires and leave just the ones to the wipers, or do you know specifically which colored ones you kept?

I suppose it would be easier to ask that. Its just that I do not want to lose anything on the dash and whatnot...

I'm thinking my Weber was set too rich? Cause today, I drove and did'nt see anything come out of the exhaust... I turned the screw out, but I also think it could be the weather? I dunno... lol!

Thanks for helping me though immortal!

if u turned the screw out than you are adding more fuel. also i would also like to get all this cleared up because i would like to pull my harness. so you can pull all the harness out and the computer out and your wipers will still work or do you have to find another source of power to make them work. also what about all the things on the right fender beside the battery. not all the vacuum stuff because it is all gone but im talkin about the little black fuse box and things beside it.

Actually, I think you are reversed? I think it adds more air... I pulled my harness in an equivalent of 4 hours. But that was added with the dinking around. Now that I think of it, it is pretty crazy I did that! LOL! Yesterday, I'm just like eh, I'll just pull this piece... then after a few hours, I pull everything! Its like getting into trouble! Haha!

Heres some pics after I just got done today! I want to include my brake booster just for shizz and giggles... Its just so shiny! LOL!

Cruise control vacuum pulled as well..

I pulled the ECU as well. So what I did to the harness, I just cut the rest of the wires to the connector thats with the wires to the wipers.. Then, I loomed it with electrical tape. After taking a ballsy move, I find that everything is still functional! Weee! Lol, lets hope my dash will still work after I get it in, lol!

I was questionable about some of the stuff on the passenger side fenderwell as well. But then when you look, there just sensors, compensators, containers, etc. I think the only thing I have on the side is the horn relay, the main fuseblock, and some thing thats next to the horn relay. I could'nt figure it out, so I kept it in...

I think the only thing left is to make a block off plate for my EGR... and also put my header and the rest of the exhaust in! WOOO!! Lol... Thanks immortal!

Happy to help. Will try to take some pics and post some further details on what NEEDS to stay.
