Id leave it as fluxcore if youre going to be doing framework. Gas for body work.

gas can be used for frames, and yes its better ur welds will look alot cleaner and such

my flux core welds are very clean when scratch brushed...........gas will make less spatter for sure.

Yea flux core penetrates much better. And yes 125 amps is enough. I did all my rear framework with an 88 amp flux core. I can penetrate 1/4" easily with that.

a good rule of thumb when welding is you need 1 amp for every thousandth of an inch and then add a 50 amp buffer so you aren't pushing the welder to its limits. 1/4" of an inch is .250 so if you were going to weld it by the "book" a 250 amp machine would be required then add another 50 so its not at its peak. You can do frame work with a 135amp machine though you are just going to need to spend more time prepping your metal. Chamfer all your edges, run a stringer bead then do your cap bead over that.

If you know what you are doing, like you say you do, then you will be fine. Of course you'd be better off with a different machine, but if you dont have the extra cash to go buy another, then it is possible to do it just as good with the machine you have now. Just make sure you take your time, go SLOW, burn the weld in real good, and prep your metal good.

thats true, but when you have a hobart 125, you're better off using flux core welding on a frame rather than using the gas. the gas will just hinder you. yes your welds might look clean, but that's just on top.
