I have some frame work that may need to be done and my hobbyish mig welder can weld up to 3/16" thick ...and I heard and didnt know that the b-series frame is only 1/8" thick ...could I do some frame work in 3/16" instead of 1/4" ...???

You can do multiple passes if you are running heavier than the max the welder can do.

A mig welder of any kind by nature will have trouble getting good penetration into 1/4 material.

If I were doing it, I would run a hot root pass to get good penetration, and run a nice wide cap over it.

^^ what he said

preparation is the most important thing though, usually when i weld anything above 3/16ths, i bevel the edges

you could also try flux core, but its messy

ahh so do maybe multiple layers ...is that what you mean ?? ...but is 3/16 bigger than 1/8 ..im sorry guys not good at fractions ...haha ... and i am familiar with arc welding which is good at welding up some thicker metal ...and what do you mean bevel the edges i heard of it but cant put my finger on it right now ..and thanks for the responses guys

4/16 is 1/8"

so 1/8 is 1/16 bigger/thicker than 3/16

Make sure when ur welding it though u can see it penetrating so it doesn't end up falling apart from not being hot enough and not enough penatration...

bevel'n the edges mean, they are kinda angled a little on the edge you want to weld, they dont 90 degree but right up. so the weld kind of sits in a seat sorta.

Actually 1/8 is 2/16ths therefor 3/16 is thicker material than 1/8.

3/16 would be fine for any frame work you are doing since it is 50% thicker than stock.

2/16=1/8
