recently purchased a stock b2500 single cab. looking to make it a sport truck. wanna go V8. any suggestions would be appreciated. BAR a CARB suck out here, any help on legal swaps?

Legal swaps in California require the engine to be same year as chassis, or newer. All emissions equipment for the engine year is required as well. Your best bet would be to buy a complete donor vehicle, unless you have really deep pockets.

...or just move out of California. Who wants to deal with all that water business and emission crap anyways. Fuel prices are way too high out there to start doing v-8 swaps.
