modify it obviously!
my names Dave, I picked up my 1990 b2200 se-5 for five bills, and love the mileage it gets. now onto the bad, below is a list of problems I'm working on at the moment.
my alternator I believe must be dickered. I can't tell. I could use some help with testing that. I replaced the main fuseable link it looked like it had melted the white stuff inside a bit. I need help converting to toggle switch and push button ignition as well it could be an ignition switch gone bad.
I think I'll change to the gm alternator anyway.
how do I know if I have a carbed or tbi model? if the truck is turned off and I turn the throttle by hand it squirts gas which leads me to believe it's a carb right?
I am also interested in deleting all the old emmissions bullshit if I can.
If there's a flat-topped air cleaner just on the passenger side of the engine, and 3 rubber tubes in front of that assembly, then it's carbureted, one of the most complicated carbs on the planet, and made worse by its age. Most -like me - have gone to the genuine Redline Weber K675 replacement kit.
Yeah its more than likely carbd. Get a pacesetter header and a weber carb!
ok carbureted, I thought so and yea it does look really over complicated! however, the little truck still runs good and starts easy. I would like to leave it alone.
I think my electrical issue is done and solved I'll carry a jump charger and cables until I get the alternator swapped. Old main fuse was due.
I like the look of the ford headlight swap too (this pickup is gonna be more like an AMC than a Mazda)
1. can the ranger headlight swap work on 1991 grilles?
2. can I keep my little truck reliable and remove select parts of the emissions system? or is it redundant. like, "you might as well switch to a weber and pacesetter"
1. Yes
2. To remove emissions you must upgrade to a weber carb.
To answer your questions yes you can do the ranger head light conversion on a 91 grill. You will have to do a little cutting and minor adjustments but fairly easy. Here is a link with a step by step....
And to remove your emission crap I haven't done it yet but I will be doing it very soon! From what I have read, it doesn't seem very difficult just removing a bunch of junk and then putting everything back together. Here is the best link I could find for it....
Hope this helps you out man!
Chance
thanks for that emissions removal link. I read the ranger one late last night. this truck is a blast to drive, it reminds me of crusin back in high school in my buddies old 89 s10 short box lol
that turned out to be a great link thank you, looks like the egr tubes are hitting the box with the rest of the household garbage! then I can fix up the leaking half there exhaust pipe to new catless cherry bombed shiny tipped side exhaust
