hello from houston texas
hello, my name is garrett and i recently bought my first "mini truck" a bone stock rcsb 1988 b2200 with 99k original miles for 1k. i bought it as a "cheap" DD but i already want to mod it. im looking to get the best mpg i can, so any help is appreciated. i tried searching some but havent found exactly what im looking for.
not me in the pic lol.
Nice truck. Have fun with it!
Welcome, nice truck.
Unless you do some serious modifications or engine swapping you won't get much improvement in mileage just tweaking her. The next level of modifications down would be a full engine refresh to make sure she is running at her OEM peak - which by the way is about 25mpg for the manual trans and 20 for the automatic. That's just how much they did back then.
The easiest thing is to do a tune-up and drive her until you decide what you really want to do.
Some examples of upgrades that won't get you much in MPG, some but not worth the $$ if you ask me. 1. Weber carb, $260. 2. Pacesetter header, $180
The guy I bought it from said he was getting 25mpg, but I was looking at the carb and it appears somethig is either wired shut or open so Idk if I believe him.
It is a 5spd.
So far my plans are to get it running 100%, has a slight stumble/miss, lower 3/3, and aluminum wheels.
And just cosmetic stuff. It has a couple rust bubbles on the roof so when I fix those I'm going to paint the top half of the cab black.
On a side not does anybody know of an air bag helper kit that works for these trucks?
